When you buy a product of almost any kind, but specifically a digital product, on the internet, there are some rights which are associated with it that you are entitled to as a purchaser. In some cases, instead of just buying a product for personal use, you can also choose to purchase its resale rights, master resale rights or private label rights.
For many internet marketers, buying resell rights has become a lucrative way to earn more money and have a ready made product to sell in just a few minutes. Aside from earning money from the sale of products and the rights it comes with, individuals can also earn through what they do with the product and its content. What you choose to do with what you purchase however, will depend on what kind of rights you get. The rest of this article will detail what the different rights are and what they can be sued for.
Private or Personal Use Rights
These are your basic rights as a consumer. We all know how it goes: You can buy an item from the internet like an ebook or software but you only have the right to personally use it. You cannot resell the product or make changes to it and then resell it. You also cannot claim the product as your own. It’s just like buying a music CD. You can listen to it all you want but it becomes illegal to burn a hundred copies and sell them.
Basic Resell Rights
This is the cheapest kind of product rights aside from personal use rights. It simply means that you can resell a product to other people. The customer however, cannot resell the rights of the product or mass produce a product and sell the copies. The disadvantage to this kind of rights is that it places limits on what you can do with it. For example, you cannot modify the product in any way shape or form, or claim it as your own. On the other hand, it can help you generate quick profits, with no need to redo product content or create a product of your own.
Depending on the conditions of your purchase, you may have the option of selling the product for any price or even using it as a free incentive. Quite often the prices you can resell the product for though are restricted (ie. It must sell for at least $7 and cannot be given away for free). The sites that they can be sold on are also sometimes limited. For example, many products can’t be resold on auction sites or placed on membership sites.
Master Resell Rights
These rights give you the authority to resell the product and its basic resell rights. Your customer can also then benefit by selling the product. Your customers however cannot sell basic resell rights to their own customers. Although master resell rights are a higher form of resell rights than basic resell rights and are therefore more expensive, you are still somewhat limited. This is because you still are not allowed to claim the product as your own or make changes to it.
Private Label Rights
These are obviously the most expensive kind or product rights but they are also the best kind to have at your disposal. In a brief nutshell, PLR rights pretty much mean that you can do whatever you want with the product, through you should still critically check the terms and conditions to see if there are any restrictions.
Generally, private label rigts means that you can change or modify the product as you see fit and slap yout name on it claiming the product as your own as well as sell basic resell rights. Sometimes, but not always, you can also sell master resell rights, and/or private label rights depending on the license it comes with.
An additional plus to buying private label rights is that you can modify products to suit different marketing strategies. You may for example sell an ebook as is or chop it into smaller parts and then sell the individual articles. You can also often use the articles as free incentives or as relevant content in your web site.

Hi Jean, to translate an ebook, you would either need PLR rights where you can do what you want with the content, or you may be able to purchase cheaper rights to resell a translated version.
In general, normal PLR rights would cover translation.
Thanks,
Justin Michie
